Join the Divest Philly from the War Machine Coalition, CODEPINK, Peace Action, World BEYOND War, Philadelphia Green Party, and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) US for this webinar on "Abolishing Nuclear Weapons Globally & Locally."
Locally, nationally, and internationally, we're part of a global movement to divest from and abolish nuclear weapons. This January marked the 1-year anniversary of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) entering into force. Our program will begin with Cherrill Spencer of the WILPF Disarm/End Wars Committee giving a background on the treaty and its current status. How are countries responding to the treaty entering into force and how does the treaty help advance our goals to abolish nuclear weapons? Following Cherrill, we'll hear from Shea Leibow of CODEPINK and Greta Zarro of World BEYOND War to discuss the Divest from the War Machine Coalition and the success of local divestment campaigns across the country to cut public and private investments from nuclear weapons and military contractors. Then we'll look locally at the Divest Philly from the War Machine campaign right here in Philadelphia and hear from David Gibson of Peace Action about the campaign's progress towards divesting the city's pension fund from nukes.
Join us to discuss how we can leverage the passage of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and the growing war divestment movement to advance peace locally in our cities.
