2015 is on track to be the hottest year on record, and scientists expect even hotter years ahead. 350Brooklyn invites Brooklynites to learn how they can act locally to help solve the climate crisis.

The teach-in will feature New York State Assemblymember Felix Ortiz, who represents Red Hook and Sunset Park, explaining how his Fossil Fuel Divestment Act will effectively and responsibly remove fossil fuel holdings from state employee pension funds, and free up funds for investment in clean energy.

Mark Dunlea, President of the Green Legal Fund, will explain the technology that makes a transition to 100% clean energy by 2030 in New York State not only feasible, but also great for the local economy.

Kim Fraczek, co-director of the Sane Energy Project, will describe their campaign against planned fossil fuel infrastructure in New York State.

Seminary student Rosina Pohlmann will speak about the moral dimensions of the climate crisis. Responding to this emergency, which affects the world’s poorest nations disproportionately, requires breaking our addiction to fossil fuels.

Following these speakers, Brooklynites can participate in breakout groups, meet climate-concerned neighbors, and help move Brooklyn toward a low-carbon, clean-energy, fossil-fuel-free future.

The event will take place on Sunday, September 27th at Camp Friendship, located at 339 Eighth Street in Park Slope, from 4 to 6 pm.
