Apr. 24: Action in San Francisco on Walmart Board Member Aida Alvarez

Start: Wednesday, April 24, 2013 5:00 PM

On April 24, 2013, Walmart Director Aida Alvarez will be helping to convene the Latino Community Foundation’s annual gala at The Fairmont hotel. The event is supported by Walmart, who LCF calls a “Corporate Champion.” We would like to invite our supporters in the SF Bay Area to join our people's party outside of the event to show Ms. Alvarez that NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR SILENCE! Outside the event, we’ll be joined by: -Kalpona Akter, executive director of Bangladesh Center for Worker Solidarity, along with a survivor of the Tazreen factory fire. Bangladesh was the site of the tragic Tarzeen factory fire last year that killed 112 workers. In the aftermath, the New York Times reported that the factory produced garments for Walmart and that Walmart officials had blocked an effort to improve factory safety in Bangladesh. Walmart has taken no action to compensate the families of the workers. -Members of the Organization United for Respect at Walmart (OUR Walmart) from California. Walmart workers in the United States are coming together to demand good jobs and decent benefits. Join these courageous workers and their supporters to tell Walmart Director Aida Alvarez that it’s time to stand up and push for real change at Walmart. http://walmart1percent.org/board-of-directors-aida-alvarez/ https://www.facebook.com/pages/Jobs-with-Justice-San-Francisco/183993281625331 https://www.facebook.com/MakingChangeWMT https://www.facebook.com/InternationalLaborRights Making Change at Walmart is a project of the UFCW. The UFCW has no intent to have Walmart recognize or bargain with it as the representative of Walmart employees.
