- Sometimes we do it to ourselves—thinking that we're not feeling well because we're "getting old", instead of seeking treatment for the underlying condition.
- Often it happens in our interactions with providers: being talked down to, not respected and having our symptoms dismissed. One study showed that nearly one-third of older adults said they frequently experience age discrimination from doctors or hospitals.
- And ageism shows up in our institutions and policies: fewer medical students becoming geriatricians, older people not included in clinical trials, and the pervasiveness of ageism during the pandemic.
The good news? There are things that we can do. Together!
The online workshop is hosted by Changing the Narrative, a campaign to change the way people think, talk and act about aging and ageism.
