AVHS Walkout for Gun Control
Start: Wednesday, March 14, 2018•10:00 AM
End: Wednesday, March 14, 2018•10:17 AM
Women’s March Youth EMPOWER is calling for students, teachers, school administrators, parents and allies to take part in a#NationalSchoolWalkout for 17 minutes at 10am across every time zone on March 14, 2018 to protest Congress’ inaction to do more than tweet thoughts and prayers in response to the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods. We need action. Students and allies are organizing the national school walkout to demand Congress pass legislation to keep us safe from gun violence at our schools, on our streets and in our homes and places of worship.
Students and staff have the right to teach and learn in an environment free from the worry of being gunned down in their classrooms or on their way home from school.
Before the Walkout:
→ Grab a friend! If you are feeling uneasy about the walkout invite friends to join you
→ Make posters, ribbons, buttons, ect.
10:00 Walkout (during your 1st period block)
→ Please leave all backpacks in your first period
→ The AV office will be our only exit point off campus
→ Please be respectful of all school staff, after all they are not the ones we are protesting
→ Line up along Santa Rita to observe 17 minutes of silence
→ Posters are recommended for this but of course are no necessary
→ Please remain silent for the whole 17 minutes to honor the senseless deaths of the 17 students that lost their lives at Majority Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14, 2018
Returning to class
→ Retrieve belongings from your 1st period
→ Promptly return to access
→ Do not take advantage of this opportunity. We are extremely grateful to live in a country where these events are allowed and to have staff that supports us, so don't hold that in vain.
→ Join a Bay Area March for our Lives march on 3/24/18, additional information on march's can be found on the March for our Lives website
