Asheville Chapter Kick-Off!

Start: Thursday, November 21, 2019 6:30 PM

You’re invited to the kick-off event for the Asheville Chapter of World BEYOND War (WBW)!

Did you know that the U.S. military is the largest institutional consumer of oil in the world, and the largest global landholder with 800 military bases in 80 countries? Or that the U.S. military is the 3rd largest polluter of U.S. waterways? The U.S. spends $1+ trillion a year on war and preparations for war -- according to UN estimates, just 3% of that could end hunger on earth.

At this inaugural chapter meeting, we'll discuss the mission of World BEYOND War, explore ideas for campaigns and projects, and identify goals for our chapter. The chapter will provide a platform for peace education and anti-war activism to highlight the social, economic, and environmental costs of war and militarism - and advocate for an alternative, a world beyond war.

About World BEYOND War: World BEYOND War is a global grassroots network of volunteers, activists, and allied organizations advocating for the abolition of war. WBW debunks the myths that war is inevitable, just, beneficial, or necessary. WBW's work focuses on peace education, weapons divestment, and closing military bases. It provides a blueprint for the strategies needed to demilitarize, manage conflict nonviolently, and cultivate a culture of peace.
