For generations, Black people in this country have been subject to navigating a criminal legal system that has failed time and time again to provide us with any form of "justice." This system diminishes our pain when we are survivors or victims of harm, fails to hold those who have caused harm towards our community accountable, and does not protect the most vulnerable individuals within our community. With this, we ask ourselves: How can we have faith in our current legal system -- a system that does not protect us or our communities? We are aware that this same system makes room for police to criminalize us, fails to provide us with quality affordable defense, and treats us as if we are disposable by sending us to prisons and jails -- all of which only serves to further traumatize us.
On November 21st at 3:00 PM CT via Zoom, we invite you to join us for an open dialogue on the impact of the recent verdict of the Kyle Rittenhouse, similar cases, and possible action steps that we can take as a community. To join us for this conversation, attendees must register via Zoom so that we are able to know who all will be in the room and create thought-provoking discussion questions. We look forward to your listening to your contributions, thoughts, and knowledge.
