Bloomington Climate Strike: Sit-in City Hall

Start: Friday, December 06, 2019 2:00 PM

The fight for climate justice will not be won alone. It will not be won by a single candidate or by a single interest group. It will not be one by one political party defeating another. It will not be won in Indianapolis and it will not be won in Washington. It can only be won by communities of people like us courageously joining together and imagining life beyond business as usual.

On December 6th, we will participate in the international day of climate action by taking over city hall and transforming it into a festival for our collective future. We will learn together, participating in teach-ins that address the ways in which the climate crisis disproportionately affects those of us who are already the most poor or marginalized due to race, gender, sexuality, or ability. We will act together, contacting and engaging our elected officials at all levels of government. We will create together, making signs and crafts that express what climate justice means to us. We will share together in music, poetry, and art. We will stand up to the mayor, demanding that he declare a city wide climate emergency, and take radical action that is proportional to the enormity of the climate crisis. Together we will boldly stand in opposition to the powers that continue to lead our planet on a path to destruction. Together, we will joyously affirm and share together in the hope for our collective future.
