Bringing communities together to win change in your local constituency.

You are invited into a program of social justice activity in the run up to, and beyond, the 2024 General Election. Our local leadership team are dedicating the time of their community organisers to meet with you and other civil society leaders in your parliamentary constituency over the next few months. We want to bring together teams of local people who will, with staff support;

  • Identify areas of shared concern, using our Citizens Agenda as a helpful starting point. This ‘pre-manifesto’ document identifies 7 big broad areas of concern for our network of over 600 organisations across England and Wales including Mental Health, Low Pay, Migration Justice, Climate Change and Racial Justice in Education.
  • Connect you more meaningfully to a diverse range of civil society organisations in your constituency. You may have some relationships already and we’d like to help you build on this.
  • Be trained in the craft of community organising. We have regular online and in-person sessions focusing on relationship building, leadership development, cycles of community action, listening well and more. We will train your constituency team in the art of public political engagement.
  • Participate in the political moment, joining a delegation of local people to meet with your MP and/or parliamentary candidate, seeking to engage them on a social justice agenda built by the constituency team.
  • Take part in Citizens UK Voter Registration Champions Scheme.

We are building three teams, one for each of the Gedling, Rushcliffe and Broxtowe parliamentary constituencies, with initial exploration meetings May-June.

  1. Gedling - Tues 16th April, 17.30-18.30
  2. Rushcliffe - Weds 8th May, 17.30-18.30
  3. Broxtowe - Tues 11th June, 17.30-18.30

When you register you'll be asked to indicate which constituency you are interested in. You'll receive a zoom link to join the meeting ahead of the night.

Background:

Nottingham Citizens is the local chapter of Citizens UK, the home of community organising in England & Wales. Our three fold mission is to;

● Create change

● Develop leaders

● Strengthen civil society institutions

The Nottingham chapter is composed of over 30 dues-paying member organisations from education, faith and community backgrounds who have been coming together since 2012 to take action on a broad agenda of issues. Using the methods of community organising, we’ve been creating systemic social justice change, developing the leadership capacity of ordinary people through the action, and strengthening our member organisations in the process. This activity has been largely concentrated within the city of Nottingham and we want to share and grow this movement for justice across Greater Nottingham. The 2024 General Election is a wonderful moment to do just that.
