Q: What is a Renters’ Forum?

A: The Brunswick Renters’ Forum is a space for the community to come together, connect about our common struggles as tenants, discuss possible housing solutions, and get organized to make these solutions a reality.

Q: Why do we need a Renters' Forum?

A: In 2020, the median two-bedroom rental in the Brunswick area was $1,011/month. At the time, this was deemed unaffordable for over 50% of renters in the market. Today, those same rentals are nearly double the price. We are in a housing crisis. Corporate developers and property managers won't solve the problems they create — we will

Q: Can I speak if I have a story to share?
A: We're looking to get speakers locked in ahead of time, so feel free to reach out to us via email. You can find our email on the page after you RSVP. There will also be plenty of time to mingle and get organized with your community afterwards.

Q: Who will we hear from at the Renters’ Forum?

A: Renters past and present from the Midcoast area, including speakers from Brunswick Renters’ Organization and experts on Social Housing.

Q: Does Brunswick Renters’ Organization have ideas to help alleviate the rental burden within our community?

A: We have policy proposals, but an organized community effort is needed to ensure their passage, implementation, and enforcement. We also understand that one set of policy proposals is not the end-all-be-all, but rather one step in a long process of organizing and reshaping our community. Housing is a human right, and in order to be treated as such, the needs of our community must be prioritized over developers' desires for profit.

Q: Can I bring a friend?
A: We have space for 140 people so bring all your friends!

Q: What if people are disruptive?
A: We hope that nobody is opposed to the idea of a town we can all afford to live in, but just in case, we do have medics and safety marshals on staff for the event. Many of our members are trained and experienced in de-escalation scenarios as well.
