Building Britain's Welcome

Start: Saturday, February 24, 2018 9:00 AM

End: Saturday, February 24, 2018 6:00 PM

Two and a half years ago, the image of a small child washed up on a beach shocked people across the country. Angry, and determined that no one more person should die trying to reach a safe place to call home, those people organised in their thousands and the Refugees Welcome movement was born.

These groups secured amazing victories from the government: the commitment to resettle 20,000 refugees from camps around Syria under VPRS; 3000 more under the Children at Risk scheme; the Dubs amendment for the most vulnerable unaccompanied children within Europe; and the implementation of Dublin III's family reunion function for unaccompanied children in France, Italy and Greece to unite with family members elsewhere.

Two and a half years later, the need for this movement is as desperate as ever. Thousands of refugees are continuing to risk their lives on dangerous, informal routes to find safety.

This year the UK Government will be rewriting the immigration rules, and we want them to ensure the protection of the current safe routes to sanctuary, like VPRS, and extend their protection to more people. This will only happen if we come together and organise for change.

Join organisers from Safe Passage and Citizens UK to learn how to organise people to act, how to develop leaders and strengthen your team, how to negotiate with power, how to navigate the immigration system, how to influence an immigration bill and, most importantly, how to win.

The training day on 24th Feb is totally free of charge, and is based in London (Zone 1 or 2), from 9am-6pm, followed by an optional dinner.

If you're involved in leading people who want to make change for refugees, we'd love you to join us.
