CALL to ACTION: Demand No In-Person Learning Until Its Safe: Car Caravan and Rally

Start: Thursday, March 11, 2021 4:00 PM

Join us in an action to demand Covid-19 safe schools for students, educators, and our community. In recent data from the county health department, it has been revealed that Prince George's County Covid-19 numbers are still in the red and are projected to stay there until mid-April. Our students and educators deserve to be able to learn and teach in a safe environment during this global health pandemic.

We have also surveyed our members and we know that 80% of our school's educators are either unaware of or do not have a safety and sanitization plan for buildings or adequate access to PPE. We must demand that the school board and PGCPS act in the best interest to keep everyone safe.

Join us for "ONLY WHEN ITS SAFE" a car caravan and rally. We will hold the action on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at 4 PM. The starting location will be at Charles Herbert Flowers High School.

We will hear the stories of those that have lost loved ones and colleagues to Covid-19.

Below are a few key areas not yet addressed by the district’s current approach:

·  Investment in safety equipment and facilities upgrades. Specifically, adequate air filtration systems in every room where there are students and/or educators.

·    Investment in COVID-19 testing, tracing, and vaccination, with vaccinations, phased in and aligned with those being asked to go back in buildings.

·   Investment to improve distance learning and implement hybrid models.

·   Meaningfully involve parents, students, community members, and workers in all aspects of reopening.

·   Incorporate the MSEA Checklist as a key metric used by COVID Compliance Committees in every school.

Bring your signs, mask, and stay in your car to follow COVID-19 guidelines. We look forward to you standing in solidarity with us.
