Our demands:
1. Our government must tell the truth about the climate and wider ecological emergency, reverse inconsistent policies and work alongside the media to communicate with citizens.
2. Our government must enact legally binding policy measures to reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2025 and to reduce consumption levels.
3. A national Citizen's Assembly to oversee the changes, as part of creating a democracy fit for purpose.

Camp out for Climate
We invite you to join us for ‘Camp out for Climate’, starting April 16th, as XR Victoria’s contribution to International Rebellion week, which will give rise to radical actions around the world for the prevention of further climate change. We will make our presence known at parliament house in peaceful and fun-loving protest – with the aim of creating an ongoing, fortnightly protest that will increase by one extra night each time, reaching permanency if needed. Our aim? To confront our government and demand emergency action on climate change. Our earth is dying. We will not stand by and let this unfold.

We invite all who value an inhabitable planet to collaborate with us in this PEACEFUL, but distinctly disruptive and visible action. Our intention is to create an atmosphere of heartfelt and festive defiance, replete with music and art spaces, skill-sharing and symbolic seed-planting for the future we hope to safeguard. Families are welcome. We will migrate to the nearby Treasury Gardens if our numbers require more space.

Please come prepared with: a tent; food and water; sleeping bag/bedding; and entertainment if you can - musical instruments, arts and crafts, and any other peaceful forms of fun and skill-sharing will be joyously welcomed. Drugs and alcohol will not be tolerated during this action. Other useful items to bring would be: equipment for hot drinks; lights and torches, high-viz vests. And we would also love to hear from anyone who can assist with organising the following: portable toilets; megaphone; trolleys (to transport items from cars); a soap-box (for speeches).

The safety of all campers will be strategically tended to, with designated protestors keeping vigil in shifts throughout the night. We will provide a briefing for all participants upon arrival and provide you with a wristband to signify your participation and help keep us safe as a group. Please keep in mind that police are likely to attend at some point, and may attempt to move us on – in which case, we advise you to respectfully state your right to protest, advise they talk to our police liaison - do not reveal further information. We will do our best to brief you on the day, but we strongly recommend that you inform yourself in advance of the legal implications of peaceful protest, in order to protect yourself and make the action a success, by following this link:

It is historically proven that non-violent protest is a potent means for winning large-scale support and compelling governments to act, since it appeals to human morality in the most direct, sincere way.
