Capitalism is making us sick!

One in five children in the UK is believed to have a probable mental health disorder, and suicide is the lead cause of death among those aged 15-29 globally. This crisis can no longer be ignored. The new government needs to put youth mental health at the top of their list of priorities.
The second in our series of Youth Mental Health online calls will explore the structural causes of mental ill health, and the radical demands we need to be making of the new government.
We’ll be joined by two writers with first-hand experience of mental ill health - Micha Frazer-Carroll (author of Mad World) and Tori Tsui (author of It’s Not Just You) - to unpack how capitalism is making us sick, and how we can organise in response.
We’ll explore how fossil fuel companies’ destabilisation of our climate is creating unbearable eco-anxiety. How the school system often traumatises young people, forcing bodies to sit still when they need to run and play. And how poorly paid jobs, insecure housing and the inability to afford heating or food are all driving mental distress.
