But a few years after the initial diagnosis, she began digging into it more. What she uncovered was an environmental mess responsible for a public health crisis. She discovered that contaminants were reported at an upstream site within a mile of her home, and that several other community members had also been diagnosed with lymphoma and various kinds of cancer.
