Climate Change and California's Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)
Nature-based solutions are a vital part of climate action. The ocean, which serves as a climate-regulator and carbon sink, is of particular importance for both mitigation and adaptation efforts. This presentation will explore topics including an overview of California's MPAs; potential climate benefits provided by MPAs; current knowledge and knowledge gaps; and work currently underway to advance our understanding of the connections between climate change and MPAs.
Our speaker is Jamie Blatter, who serves as the North Coast and Climate Specialist, as well as the Tribal Liaison, for the Marine Protected Area (MPA) Collaborative Network. Her work is focused on the intersections of grassroots ocean justice and climate change.
This talk is part of the 350 Humboldt Speakers Series which hosts local experts to present information on climate-relevant topics. This talk is co-sponsored by EPIC, the Northcoast Environmental Center, Humboldt Friends, and the Humboldt Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship Climate Action Campaign.
The event is on Zoom. You will receive the link when you RSVP.
