Impact the Climate Crisis Now! Public Hearing at the RI State House

Start: Thursday, March 05, 2020 4:30 PM

Oil industry lobbyists will be at the State House this Thursday to once again oppose taking any serious action against the climate crisis. The only way to overcome them is with a show of force of regular people who demand climate action!

Please come to the public hearing on House Bill 7399, Act on Climate 2020, this Thursday in the House Environment Committee. We will gather at 4:30pm outside Room 101, but if that is too early, come when you can, up to 5:30.

This bill is our top legislative priority of 2020. Come and testify, or just to learn about the process and lend critical support. This bill has a realistic chance of passing and would be a game changer for Rhode Island. You can help make that happen by showing up and impressing on the legislators how important this is to the people who elect them. That is what makes the difference.

Mark Allan, Justin Boyan, and other members of CARI's Political and Legislative Mobilization group will be there. Please sign up on this page so we know you plan to attend. Introduce yourselves to any CARI member (look for our black hats!), and we will also look for you.

RI emission reduction targetsAct On Climate 2020 (H.7399) is formally an amendment to the Resilient Rhode Island Act of 2014. It tightens up the state's carbon emission reduction goals in accordance with current climate science, and more importantly, finally makes those goals mandatory and enforceable. It will provide a base for transformative action in Rhode Island to address the climate crisis while creating critically sustainable and just economic growth.

If you can't make it to the hearing, but would still like to voice your support for the bill, please join our online letter-writing campaign.

This is our moment. Please join us, and bring friends!
