The Government has promised a new, stronger, Climate Bill within its first 100 days.

As the clock ticks down to the October 5th deadline, join this Stop Climate Chaos a webinar to discuss what must be in the new bill and where the law fits in the broader push for faster and fairer climate action.

Stop Climate Chaos policy coordinator, Sadhbh O’Neill, will be joined by Oisín Coghlan, Director of Friends of the Earth, and Dr. Diarmuid Torney,  Assistant Professor at the DCU School of Law and Government.

Oisin is a veteran of the 8 year campaign, coordinated by Stop Climate Chaos, that led to the 2015 Climate Action Act. Although the final law was much weaker than we wanted, it proved strong enough for the Supreme Court to use to quash the Government’s 2017 climate action plan, in their landmark judgement in August that we discussed at our webinar last week. Now we have a chance to get the law Friends of the Earth and Stop Climate Chaos have been campaigning for since 2007.

Dr. Diarmuid Torney is an Assistant Professor at the DCU School of Law and Government. He specialises in climate governance and global climate politics, and is the author of a number of EPA funded research reports on Irish climate policy. He has also contributed as an expert advisor to the 2017 Citizens' Assembly and is the author of a recent briefing on the draft Heads of Bill to amend the 2015 climate law.
