The world is grappling with the effects of a heating planet.
This is having a devastating effect on the people and communities bearing the brunt of climate change.
The burden of sovereign debt hampers efforts to meet the costs of the climate crisis.
And yet, our economics education rarely discusses this. It remains stuck in the previous century.
Join Rethinking Economics as we discuss the economics behind climate reparations, how the burden of sovereign debt contributes to the crisis and what might be done about it.
During the session we will hear from:
Professor Jayati Ghosh, Professor of Economics, University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA
As well as a number of members of the Rethinking Economics network and climate campaigners from around the world:
Sitwala Lipalile, Movement Manager, Youth4Climate Justice
Yi Yi Prue, climate and indigenous activist, Bangladesh
Andris Naima, Eco-Detay, Haiti
We will also introduce our new Teaching Pack that students can ask to be included as part of their University teaching.
