Camden Climate Strike 12/6

Start: Friday, December 06, 201910:00 AM

End: Friday, December 06, 201912:00 PM

With the consequences of climate change becoming ever more clear and dire with each passing day, a new powerful wave of the climate movement has been swelling up over the last couple of years. Young people around the world have been rising up to defend our future, and have been going on strike – every week, all over the planet – for months. In the September Climate Strikes alone, 7.6 million people took to the streets with us.

But our movement isn't going anywhere. Now, we are preparing for the next wave of Climate Strikes.

In Camden, Mayor Francisco Moran and the city council have yet to sign the Green New Deal pledge. We need them to declare a climate emergency and force Governor Murphy to shut down any proposed fossil fuel plant construction. Camden and Newark have the worst lead-water pollution rates in NJ and are among the worst throughout the country. We want measures taken that will make our water safe to drink and prevent unnecessary illness and death.

If we continue to produce carbon emissions, South Jersey will be hit hard twice by climate change: once by deadly heat waves, and once by our coastal infrastructure going underwater. Ocean City and Camden will be lost to the sea if we don't act now.
