Compass Oxford Barnstorm

Start: Wednesday, March 22, 2023 6:00 PM

Oxfordshire has been a hub of progressive activity in the last few years.

In parliament, Layla Moran is forging ahead - just last week she was named in this year's list of 100 inspirational and influential Women in Westminster.

In 2021, the Oxfordshire Fair Deal Alliance took control of Oxfordshire County Council. Last year, the West Oxfordshire Alliance took control of the council in David Cameron's old constituency - sharing cabinet positions across the Liberal Democrat, Labour, and Green representatives. Together, the Liberal Democrat and the Greens run South Oxfordshire District Council, and are the formal opposition group for Cherwell District Council.

Compass Oxfordshire members are regularly writing in local media - on PR and pluralism, on the fallout of Truss, on social change. And this year for the local elections, they're getting stuck in.

So ahead of this year's local elections, Compass is coming to Botley Road for a barnstorm.

A barnstorm is part rally, part workshop, and part networking. The best way to understand is to do it.

For this event, we're teaming up with Rapid Transition Alliance to get people ready for outreach and action around the upcoming local elections so that we get the best result for rapid and just transition and a good society.

The Compass team will talk through our aims for these local elections, our values and what we’re doing all this for. We’ll get you ready to hit the streets, the doors, and write to the local newspapers or engage the candidates - and encourage people to make the right choice by voting for progress in Oxfordshire.

In Oxfordshire, Cherwell District Council is the one remaining council run by the Conservatives. Compass Oxfordshire has run the numbers, and it is one of the tens of councils around England where despite winning less than 50% of the local vote at their election, the Conservatives hold all the power.

Come along to get involved with the campaign for May - and to get ready for the next general election.

We're happy to be collaborating with Rapid Transition Alliance to deliver events around the country like this one tying climate and democracy together. Rapid Transition Alliance gathers examples of transition to a low carbon society.
