In light of the police brutality fueling protests across the country, many DSA members are demanding politicians defund the police and invest in public services instead. In the last few weeks, we have already seen state and local budgets get slashed for housing, healthcare, and education, while budgets for police and prisons remain intact and even increased.
Several of our chapter members have suggested pursuing a campaign to defund police and fund public services in North NJ. Due to this growing interest in such a campaign, our COVID committee is meeting next Thursday, June 11, at 7:30PM, to explore this idea and to discuss next steps toward moving our chapter to a chapter-wide priority campaign by the end of the month.
