OUR DEMOCRACY IS UNDER ATTACK, AND IT IS UP TO ALL OF US TO SOUND THE ALARM.

We’re in a full-blown democratic crisis: a “break glass in case of emergency” moment. President Biden and Senate Democrats must make protecting the freedom to vote their top priority. If the For the People Act (S. 1) does not pass soon, the United States will have minority rule - AKA “competitive authoritarianism.” There is no time to lose - we must make these stakes perfectly clear to politicians, to the media, and to the American people.

AN URGENT CALL TO ACTION

• Come out every Friday until we win. A peace-loving, nonviolent group of activists will be in front of Senator Feinstein’s office (1 Post Street, San Francisco) every Friday, 4:30 to 5:30 PM starting on September 10th, until the Senate passes or kills the For the People Act. Sign up here for our events on the 10th and the 17th by clicking on "Send RSVP" on the right. (It's okay if you can only attend on one of those dates--sign up anyway!)

• Stage your own small action.  The highest pressure-point for the protest is outside of senators' offices, so join us outside Feinstein's office in San Francisco on the 10th and the 17th if you can--but you can stage an event anywhere that is high-visibility and works well for your group. Protests organized by the Declaration for American Democracy will occur all over the country on September 17th, during the Senate's first week back in session; but in the Bay Area, we should be able to sustain the protest on several Fridays in a row if necessary.  Write to us at weloveourdemocracy@gmail.com if you're interested in staging your own event, and we can send you an organizer's toolkit.

• Ask one person you know in another state to stage a small action. Our momentum will build faster if we seed actions around the country - send the toolkit to good troublemakers in your network.
