DISRUPT BURRUP HUB Action Training
Start: Sunday, July 30, 2023• 2:00 PM
End: Sunday, July 30, 2023• 6:00 PM
The Burrup Hub is a climate catastrophe and a cultural nightmare.
Woodside's development in the North West of Western Australia will pump 6 billion tonnes of emissions into the atmosphere: That's 12 times Australia's current annual emissions.
47,000 year old Murujuga rock art is under threat from chemical emissions from Burrup industry.
We are undertaking a direct action campaign to erode Woodside's social license and DISRUPT BURRUP HUB.
We all have a responsibility to do what we can to avert the crisis in our own backyard.
This training is for anyone who wants to take action with us or learn more about how to undertake non-violent disruption.
You'll learn:
- The practical skills needed to safely take part in disruptive protests.
- The theory behind non-violent direct action.
- How to ground yourself and be calm when taking action.
- Your legal rights.
- How to safely navigate police interactions and the legal system.
If you're fired up, or simply curious, come along to meet other campaigners and learn some new skills.
The training is free but RSVP is essential.
Some important information:
1. The time for the training has been extended: It will now run from 2 pm - 6 pm.
We added an extra hour to the training so we don't have to rush. We want time to delve into practical and theoretical aspects of non-violent direct action. We'll have time to practice, to hear from a lawyer on legal implications, and to hear from people in the room who've done direct action before about their experiences.
2. A camera crew will be filming the training
A major media outlet is putting together a story on climate activism in Australia, focussing on DISRUPT BURRUP HUB.
A camera crew will be filming parts of the training on Sunday.
If you'd rather not be in any footage, that's fine: Just let us know either on the day or in reply to this email.
3. Please bring a notepad and pen
At various points in the training, it might be useful to be able to take some notes.
