Dorchester Growing Together is hosting our first meet-up since 2019, reinvigorating our organizing as we begin to come out of the pandemic. Bring some food from home or grab takeout from one of the nearby small business options (Antonio's Pizzeria, Just Thai Kitchen, Coco Leaf, BosBurger, The Blarney Stone, Anh Hong). We will have a giant cooler filled with Polar Seltzer flavors. Please join us!
We are now an official member organization under the Abundant Housing Massachusetts umbrella and are already benefitting from having access to their advice and organizing tools. Their Executive Director, Jesse Kanson-Benanav, and other AHMA members, will join us at this meet up. In the months ahead, we want to expand our membership and step up our visibility and advocacy for equitable housing reform, both locally, and throughout the Boston Metro area. With the advent of remote participation in public meetings, we also aim to strategize and share information with our members about how we can show up in support of development projects at all stages of the permitting process, from first proposals to approvals. We know there are many people throughout Dorchester who want to eliminate exclusionary zoning; believe planning should be done by planners, without each proposal needing to fight it out at the neighborhood association level; prioritize public transit, bike & pedestrian infrastructure, and homes for people as we deprioritize parking for cars; and see more housing of all kinds, including ADUs and the "missing middle," built at all price points. At the same time, we want to recognize the unequal burden historically disadvantaged neighborhoods are suffering during the current housing crisis and continue to show up in support of tenant protections and eviction reform.
