Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration

Start: Saturday, January 16, 201610:00 AM

End: Saturday, January 16, 201612:00 PM

Join an alliance of labor, civil rights and social justice organizations to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s vision, which challenged Americans 50 years ago to fight for genuine equality and economic fairness.

The purpose of the event is to highlight the economic inequality, social injustice and racial inequities that are hurting working people and shrinking the middle class here in Connecticut. But it's also to unite our communities as one so we can create a more just and fair society for all.

Participating organizations include Council 4, the Connecticut AFL-CIO and many other unions and community organizations.

In Connecticut, where the middle class is shrinking, where huge corporations make billions in profits while paying workers less than $10.00 an hour, and Koch Brothers-funded front
groups attack workers for having unions, where critical public services are repeatedly cut and the richest among us pay the lowest tax rates, and where unemployment for Black and Latino people is two to three times higher than for white people, there is a path forward.

Join us on Jan. 16 to help chart that path forward.
