Mutual aid is a form of political participation in which people take responsibility for caring for one another, not just through charity or symbolic acts. Instead, this is about actually building social connections that support the survival of DC’s communities. We deliver produce, groceries, cleaning supplies, diapers and hygiene items to neighbors across Wards 7 and 8.
The Coronavirus crisis is highlighting all the ways systems have been set up to fail us from who can buy enough to eat, stay at “home”, who gets financial relief, to who can protect themselves at work. As mass evictions creep closer and closer and more people have been without work for months people still need to rely on their closest neighbors more than ever before. This is especially true for the most vulnerable members of our communities.
It’s also true that after almost two years hard work we could use a significant infusion of volunteers from all those who are available. We need roles both in-person and remote from delivery drivers and packers to hotline operators. We have PPE, sanitation, health and safety protocols to best protect volunteers and those receiving mutual aid.
Don't forget to register for the Zoom here.
