What is Election Protection: The goal of our non-partisan election protection program is to ensure Ohio voters have the information they need in order to cast their ballot this November. We work to minimize barriers to the ballot box, particularly for under-represented communities. By creating a simple and satisfying voting experience, we can empower voters and create a more representative democracy. One primary component of the program is the Election Protection Hotline, 866-OUR-VOTE, the nation's largest non-partisan hotline to ask voting questions and report voting problems.
Who We Are: We are the Ohio Voter Rights Coalition, a network of nonpartisan voter advocates including ACLU of Ohio, All Voting is Local, Common Cause Ohio, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights under Law, League of Women Voters of Ohio, and more.
What are Command Center Volunteers (Legal experience perferred): Command Center Volunteers are high level volunteers that monitor call logs received from the Election Protection Hotline. Volunteers will review a database to ensure that election problems are resolved by boards of election officials, and make follow up calls to voters, election officials and Election Protection staff as needed. The command center is virtual so volunteers can perform these tasks from the comfort of their home or office. A Zoom link will be provided prior to Election Day that volunteers are encouraged to join during their volunteer shift so there is a common space for volunteers to share. Please note - volunteers need access to a stable internet connection, phone, and computer.
Training: Command Center Volunteers will receive training on how to use Our Vote Live, the reporting system for the Election Protection Hotline. Training will also include an overview of Ohio election law frequently asked questions. When you RSVP to attend this event you will be added to our distribution list for Command Center Volunteers, and you will receive a link to view the on demand training available in late September. Also, once you RSVP, a member of the Ohio Voter Rights Coalition will contact you to conduct an initial screening, and discuss additional details regarding this program.
