Emergency Rally, Keep Apartheid Free Community Pledge on the ballot!
Start: Monday, December 16, 2024• 5:00 PM
Emergency Rally at the Burlington City Council!
Support Democracy! Oppose Apartheid and Genocide!
Monday, December 16, 5pm
City Hall
149 Church St., Burlington, VT
Whether you're a Burlington resident or a neighbor, we need you to show your support at City Hall in person or virtually!
For the second year in a row, we gathered more than the required 5 percent of signatures from registered voters to place the Apartheid-Free Community Pledge on the Town Meeting Ballot. This is a sign of the growing groundswell of popular opinion in Burlington, the US, and around the world against Israel’s apartheid state, settler colonialism, and genocidal war in Palestine.
On Monday, December 16, the Burlington City Council will be voting on whether they will place the AFC Pledge on the ballot. We expect the City Councilors to honor our democratic right to petition and vote on issues of local, national, and international concern that affect our community. There should be no doubt that this is a local issue after a racist shot three Palestinian students in Burlington a year ago.
We encourage all Palestine solidarity activists and supporters of local democracy to contact Burlington City Councilors and tell them to vote in favor of putting the AFC Pledge on the ballot, regardless of their personal position on the issue. This is a debate in our community, and it can only be resolved through discussion and a democratic vote. You can find the Councilors contact information here (https://bqblj.r.a.d.sendibm1.com/mk/cl/f/sh/SMK1E8tHeG13GYaoXMnlQSRurh4Q/yUCyhCu4O0_e).
On Monday, everyone should join our rally at 5pm at City Hall and testify before the Council in support of the AFC Pledge and placing it on
the ballot. Those that cannot attend in person, can register to testify over Zoom
here (https://bqblj.r.a.d.sendibm1.com/mk/cl/f/sh/SMK1E8tHeG7uihPliWxFWHkepzeg/Dfyp_85rjwQ9).
