Apr.11: DC Action: End Factory Death Traps in Bangladesh

Start: Thursday, April 11, 2013 5:30 PM

On November 24th 112 garment workers were killed in a fire at the Tazreen Garment factory in Bangladesh. Despite initial denials from Walmart officials, surviving workers and records showed thatclothes were being produced at the factory for Walmart at the time of the fire. Join Bangladeshi garment workers, Walmart workers, community members, and religious leaders as we call on Walmart to pay reparations to the families of the victims and Walmart and the Gap sign on to a program that will help make sure fires like the one at Tazreen don't happen again. Walmart, the Gap, and other retailers need to take responsibility for improving fire safety in Bangladesh. Shortly after the fire it became clear that Walmart had taken the lead in blocking fire safety improvements. We need to hold Walmart and the Gap accountable before more workers are killed! Sponsored by Corporate Action Network, International Labor Rights Forum, United Students Against Sweatshops, Sum of Us, Making Change at Walmart, and Respect DC.
