Evergreen Gold Timber Sale Community Hike
Start: Sunday, December 17, 2023•12:00 PM
Thank you for registering for a forest outing to one of Capitol State Forest's few remaining unprotected mature legacy forests on state-managed lands. We will be visiting the "Evergreen Gold" timber sale, a beautiful naturally regenerated forest. This forest is 85-100 years old and has biodiversity that includes mature firs and cedar trees over 5 ft. in diameter. On the hike we will learn what makes "Evergreen Gold" unique and ecologically important, what species of plants and trees live in this forest, what we can do to protect it. Evergreen Gold is slated to be auctioned off for clearcut logging by the Department of Natural Resources in March or April unless the community takes steps to protect it!
Logistics: The hike is Sunday, 12/17/23, 12-3pm. We will meet at 12pm at the Bob Bammert Grove Trailhead. HERE is the google maps location. We will then carpool to the Evergreen Gold trailhead. The hike will be around 3.5 miles roundtrip.
What to bring: Weather-appropriate clothing, hiking footwear, water, food, face mask, discover pass.
