EXTINCTION REBELLION PHX CALLS OUT WELLS FARGO

Wells Fargo’s financing fossil fuel projects harms marginalized communities. Extinction Rebellion, Black Lives Matter, Phoenix Environmental Justice Coalition and Scientist Rebellion are joining the Blame Wall Street campaign and calling out their hypocrisy.

The action will feature speakers talking about environmental justice both locally and globally and how Wells Fargo’s funding of fossil fuel projects for their own short-term greed harms these communities.

The protest will be at the Wells Fargo branch at 5815 N 19th Ave, Phoenix on Saturday Oct. 29th from 11:00-2:00.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said climate activists are "depicted as dangerous radicals, but the truly dangerous radicals are the countries that are increasing the production of fossil fuels." His statement is consistent with the UN’s IPCC report’s conclusion that it is CODE RED and now or never time.

Wall Street is lying to us on climate and its hypocrisy is torching the planet. They promised to align their business with the Paris Climate agreement, but they continue to finance fossil fuel projects which are fueling extreme weather events including drought, extreme heat, wildfires, and flooding around the World.

Between 2016 and 2021, Wells Fargo provided $272 billion in lending and underwriting to the fossil fuel industry, third among global banks. Its fossil financing increased $20 billion from 2020 to 2021, the most of any global bank. Wells Fargo was also the world’s biggest banker of fracking in 2021.
