General Meeting

Start: Sunday, September 17, 2017 1:00 PM

End: Sunday, September 17, 2017 4:00 PM

Our next General Meeting will be on Sunday, 9/17, at 1pm at First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia: 2125 Chestnut St.

At the meeting we will have a report back from our delegates on the national convention, updates on our Medicare for All campaign, and an opportunity to discuss Philly DSA’s electoral orientation going into 2018.

In order to take more concrete steps towards crafting an electoral politics strategy and deciding which elections it would be strategic for the chapter to involve itself in, we encourage anyone with ideas about how Philly DSA should pursue these goals to submit a political resolution. We highly encourage resolutions nominating specific candidates that the chapter should support or endorse - for more details on this please see our recent political resolution (page 3, resolution 2) on tiers of support for all political candidates.

Submitting a Resolution for Upcoming General Meeting:
  • All dues-paying members are allowed to submit resolutions to be voted on at Philly DSA's General Meetings. These resolutions should be formatted as a standard motion such that the maker of the motion is asking members to vote up or down on a given proposal. Motions should follow the format included in the form below, if motions fail to provide a clear statement of action or if they fall beyond the purview of the general membership they will be deemed out of order.
  • If you're submitting a resolution, you must be prepared to speak in favor of your motion for no more than two minutes at the meeting.
  • We suggest that members submit motions that are generally political in scope and in particular for our upcoming General Meeting, as we are approaching an election cycle, we would like to see motions pertaining to electoral candidates and strategies.
  • Keep in mind that we have a limited amount of time to debate and votes on each motion and some resolutions will be tabled due to time constraints.
  • If you would like to submit a resolution please click here. Resolutions are due on Friday September 8th and amendments to resolutions are due Wednesday September 13th. Amendments from the floor are not allowed due to time constraints.
  • The Steering Committee will compile and distribute the collected resolutions one week before the General Meeting
If you need childcare, please get in touch with Adam Goldman via email.

See you on the 17th!
