Mount Sinai: It's Time to "Find a Way!" - Community Victory March for Hospital Care in Lower Manhattan
Start: Saturday, April 13, 2024•12:00 PM
It's time to hit the streets!
...to demand Mount Sinai restore hospital services at Beth Israel Medical Center and New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, as a state court has now ordered!
On Sat. April 13 at 12 noon, join lots of Lower Manhattan residents who rely both hospitals, the dedicated doctors and nurses who provide care at them, and our friends and allies to call on Mount Sinai Health System to sit down with community leaders to restore services which they have illegally closed without approval from state officials or the courts.
What's It All About?
Mount Sinai Health System is quickly closing down Beth Israel Hospital despite not getting approval first from the New York State Dept. of Health or New York State court. If they succeed, New York Eye and Ear Infirmary will likely be next. They want to close these hospitals to sell their valuable real estate.
Good news!
The Dept. of Health just rejected Mount Sinai’s closure plan for Beth Israel, and a state court has ordered them to restore services they’ve illegally closed since last fall. Now we must demand that they work with our elected officials and other community leaders to craft a plan to preserve hospital care for the 300,000+ residents who live and work in Lower Manhattan.
What's Happening When and Where?
We'll gather in front of historic St. Mark's Church in the Bowery at noon, then march to nearby New York Eye and Ear Infirmary (also operated by Mount Sinai), and then head over to nearby Beth Israel Hospital for a patient and hospital worker speak-out about why it is an important institution serving our community for 145 years.
