Gov Murphy: Issue a Stop Work Order Now! Rally with us in West Milford
Start: Wednesday, October 04, 2023• 5:30 PM
Rally with West Milford residents to demand Governor Murphy issue an immediate stop work order to Tennessee Gas Pipeline's pipeline expansion project that threatens West Milford and the Highlands Preservation Area.
Residents and allies rally will rally in West Milford at Town Hall on Wednesday, October 4 at 5:30 PM just ahead of the council meeting to call on Governor Murphy and the NJ DEP to immediately We are hoping to have as many local residents as possible come out.
Last month the NJ Superior Court ruled that the Department of Environmental Protection should not have issued a Highlands Act exemption to Tennessee Gas Pipeline (TGP) to build its massive East 300 pipeline expansion project in the Highlands Preservation Area.
This watershed decision comes after years of organizing from residents and activists across the region who have been fighting plans for this massive pipeline expansion project in NJ. Despite this ruling, Governor Murphy’s DEP has not yet issued a stop work order for the ongoing illegal construction activity on the West Milford compressor station.
We need Governor Murphy and NJDEP Commissioner Latourette to know that local residents are calling on them to take immediate action to halt the ongoing, unpermitted, and illegal construction of a major new fossil fuel development within the Highlands Preservation Area.
We will also address the town council at their regular meeting which begins at 6:30 on Wednesday. We will ask them to contact the governor and the NJDEP to ask them for a full-stop work order of this project. We know that this will be a big ask, because West Milford’s Town Council and mayor never listened to the people of West Milford and instead of protecting the public signed an agreement with the Tennessee Gas Pipeline, supporting the project and giving up all rights to any resolution against TGP. But following this court ruling we can only hope that they will finally listen to us and petition the Governor.
