Greens Organise London meetup: What's it like to join the Greens?

Start: Thursday, April 17, 2025 6:30 PM

End: Thursday, April 17, 2025 8:00 PM

Greens Organise

The regular monthly meet-up for Greens Organise in London, this time open to members and non-members alike. Green members are encouraged to invite your non-member mates!

We'll have a Q&A with members who are relatively new to the party, including:

  • Lewisham Councillor, Hau-Yu Tam
  • Haringey by-election candidate, Ruairidh Paton
  • Hackney Downs target candidate, Dylan Law

As before this is an informal meetup with a focus on the social side - we'll go for dinner nearby after.

Background

The potential for Greens to mount a massive challenge to Labour in London is huge. Yet the region's strategy remains unclear, and we've not yet succeeded in mobilising the tens of thousands of young and diverse activists that live in the capital. Greens Organise was set up to help the party make the most of opportunities like these. London GO members are meeting monthly meet to discuss what we should do to cut through the political and media noise, develop a distinctive political programme, and organise on the ground for elections in 2026 and beyond.

In previous meetings we heard from:

  • Cat Hobbs from We Own It on bringing Thames Water into public ownership
  • Green Councillor Benali Hamdache on encouraging diverse and working class people to stand as councillor candidates
  • Faaiz Hasan and James O’Nions on developing an ambitious political strategy for London Green Party
  • Green Councillors Ria Patel and Zoë Garbett on developing new crime and justice policy as an alternative to policing and prisons

P.S. Don't forget to join Faiza Shaheen, James Meadway and Zack Polanski at London Green Party Conference on Saturday 10th May, also open to non-members. Get your ticket here.
