End: Saturday, May 20, 201712:00 PM

We are a new group of citizens from North OC who are dedicated to direct action in our local community. Our first meeting had 80 participants, our second had 100 and this will be our third Action Planning Session. It's time to get off Facebook and meet your peers!

We have two spekers scheduled:

1) Debbie Cook of the Post Carbon Institute (and former HB Mayor)

2) Kathleen Enviromental Activsit and UCI Professor

After our speakers we'll break into groups by topic, here's a list of our five Action Teams:

1) Local Elections
2) Environment
3) Health Care
4) #NoBanNoWall
5) Women's Rights

If you are new to activism and community organizing this a great place to start! We are a group that grew out of the Woman's March and we are just getting started.

WHAT TO BRING:

Please bring a laptop or notebook to take notes. We're also asking participants to bring a donation for a local charity. This month we are asking folks to bring grocery store gifts card in any amount to donate to Robyne's Nest.

The mission of Robyne’s Nest is to ensure identified at-risk & homeless students in the Huntington Beach community get the academic, financial, and life skills to complete high school and look to college, trade school or military options.

Grocery Cards, Smart & Final, Stater Bros, Ralph’s, Costco or 99 cent Store or Target cards in any denomination will help the organization purchase bulk food and/or other gift cards as needed and to give directly to students.

Bios:

Debbie Cook is the President of the Board of the Santa Rosa based Post Carbon Institute, a think tank focused on understanding and responding to the interrelated ecological, economic, energy, and equity crises of our century. Debbie is a 30 year veteran of Orange County's environmental battles, a recovering elected official, and reluctant attorney. Debbie speaks, writes, blogs, and organizes around water and energy issues, currently focused on exposing the absurdity of Poseidon's proposed ocean desalination project in Huntington Beach.
