Hiroshima Nagasaki Event in Des Moines, Iowa August 6, 7pm

Start: Monday, August 06, 2018 7:00 PM

WILPF Des Moines, Catholic Peace Ministry, Des Moines Area Religious Council, STAR*PAC, Iowa Peace Network, Poor People's Campaign,  and Methodist Federation of Social Justice will host a remembrance event at the Japanese Bell at the Iowa State Capital Complex. The theme is Remembering Hiroshima and Nagasaki: When will we stop the killing?

Welcome--Mayor Cownie
Proclamation--Jeffrey Weiss  This proclamation will be the one released by either Hiroshima or Nagasaki on August 6th for this year.
Speaker--Rev. Debbie Griffin from Downtown Disciples Church
Music--either by Kali Weiss or Mary Beth
Litany--Patti McKee
Reading about the Bell--??
Closing Prayer--Ako Abdul-Samad if he confirms or Mary Beth will close us out.

Each participant will  ring the Japanese Bell and lay a flower as together we commit to creating a safer nuclear free world.

WILPF Des Moines is the fiscal agent and will work to ask for sponsors, advertise the event, and build connections. Mary Hanson Harrison,  WILPF US President, will also speak for a couple of minutes to honor a long time WILPF member Sherry Hutchinson, who is given credit for starting the Hiroshima Nagasaki Events in Des Moines and who passed this past year.
