How can our shared love of nature help us build support for environmentalism on the left?

Start: Monday, May 20, 2019 7:15 PM

End: Monday, May 20, 2019 9:00 PM

More than 1 million people are members of the RSPB (more than any major political party). David Attenborough is a much loved national treasure who had the viewing public in tears recently watching a walrus die because of the melting ice caps.

Many people care deeply about the natural world and have a strong connection to the places they live, yet this rarely translates into support for radical environmental policies.

In an era of climate collapse, when urgent political action is desperately needed, how can we foster these deeper connections to nature? How can we build on them to develop a broader base of support for environmental politics? Where is this already being expressed and how can we harness it?

Join us for a workshop in which we explore how our shared love of nature can unlock new support for environmentalism on the left.

We’ll have short speeches from Paul Powlesland (Lawyers for Nature), Tobias Phibbs (Author of Labour Country), Melanie Smallman & Jake Sumner (SERA) followed by breakout groups for discussion.

Chaired by Jim McMahon MP & Shabana Mahmood MP (Labour Together)

For those who can't make it the event will be live streamed here.
