How to Stop an Oil field and Protect the Ocean
Start: Thursday, September 28, 2023• 7:00 PM
End: Thursday, September 28, 2023• 9:00 PM
...Rosebank is a huge environmental issue: the potential oilfield is situated right next to a marine protected area and poses a direct threat to the endangered and threatened species that call that area home. The pipeline needed to transport the oil reserves would cut through a specially protected seabed - the Faroe-Shetland Sponge Belt. It could harm this delicate ecosystem and the extraordinary creatures like sensitive deep sea sponges and clams that can live for over 500 years. Climate change is already creating irreversible damage to our endangered ecosystems.
As ocean lovers, now is the time to come together and tell the UK Government that we won't accept the approval of Rosebank. This event is open to everyone, regardless of whether you have previous involvement in the campaign or have never heard of it!
To #StopRosebank, we need people across the UK taking action and putting pressure on decision makers. Join us at the Finisterre shop in Edinburgh to discuss and plan ideas for how we can make this happen in our city. This is a public meeting, not a presentation; we'll talk briefly about the campaign so far but the majority of the time will be spent on action planning. Bring your energy and ideas!
Logistics:
- Please register in advance so we can have an idea of numbers, and to ensure we don't exceed the maximum capacity of the room
- This event is organised by the Stop Rosebank coalition. Stop Rosebank is an informal coalition space bringing together a wide civil society effort of grassroots groups, NGOs, and individuals to fight against new oil and gas projects and for a just transition from fossil fuels to renewables using a broad variety of tactics.
