Over 83% of UK local councils have declared a Climate Emergency. But where is the climate action we need, such as solar farms, home retrofit, recycling and active travel routes? Climate Emergency UK, along with the help of over 200 volunteers, created the Council Climate Action Scorecards to measure climate action from all UK councils.
The Council Climate Action Scorecards results were published on 18 October 2023. Over 74% of UK councils contributed to refining the results through their participation in the Right of Reply. Over 200 local media outlets shared the results with local residents, leading to over 50 000 unique visitors checking their local climate action scores on our website.
At this event, we will give you an introduction to the Scorecards. We will provide the background and explain the tools available to help Council Officers and Councillors understand their Councils' scores and identify best practice from other UK councils.
Attendance at the event will be useful for officers working in all council departments and not specifically those working in sustainability. The Scorecards cover a range of council activity and are useful to new and experienced staff alike.
This session will cover:
- How Climate Emergency UK created the Council Climate Action Scorecards and what the results show
- How you can use the Scorecards in your work - we'll dig into the data and show how you can use it effectively and identify best practice
- A chance to connect with other council staff and councillors from around the UK and learn from each other.
The Zoom link for the session will be sent in an email to you when you register for the event.
