Session 1, February 29 7pm Lobbying 101
Join JCAN and Dayenu to learn effective lobbying skills, the importance of building relationships with our electeds, and how we as Jews can leverage our moral voice and collective power to pass critical legislation this session. We will break into groups to practice and prepare for virtual lobby visits. In this session, we will do a deep-dive into the climate, jobs & justice legislative package, what it means for NY State, and how to persuade our electeds to champion this package.
Special Guests Include:
Hennessy Garcia, Climate Justice Organizer at Sixth Street Community Center: Born and raised in the South Bronx, Hennessy (they/she) is a current student studying environmental science and data analytics. They are an organizer in different movement spaces.They are passionate about mutual aid, police and prison abolition, reproductive justice, climate justice, intersectionality, coalition building, calculus and trees.
Emmye Vernet Brooklyn-based songwriter: Interested in music as a form of contemplative practice and community-building. Emmye’s debut album Tides was recorded live in 2021 with a collaborative ensemble of musicians in a barn-turned-DIY studio in central Massachusetts.
