This session will provide an introduction to AI and Automated Decision-Making (ADM) as used in the public sector, with a particular focus on the immigration context. We will discuss some of ways in which AI and ADM tools are being used by the Government and local authorities and concerns about whether these tools are being used lawfully. Attendees will be encouraged to think about any uses of automation they encounter in public sector decision-making, how to identify potential uses of AI/ADM and how to evaluate whether these tools are being used fairly, transparently and in a way that does not discriminate.
