Property owners on Van Buren Street have proposed an amendment to the 2040 Comp Plan that would downzone their block & N4MN is showing up in opposition to this amendment.

This application is an important test of the city's commitment to the Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan, and the Planning Commission and City Council's ability to distinguish between applying policies broadly to benefit the city as a whole, and the narrow interests of individual property owners.

PLAN15291 was sent to the BIHZ committee without recommendation to be reviewed on Tuesday, Jan 3rd. Unusually, it was placed on the consent agenda in that body and was passed without any opportunity for public comment. Now the matter goes before the full City Council on January 12th, 2023. We’re calling on the City Council members to reject staff findings and deny this comprehensive plan amendment & we need people to show up and speak in opposition to this amendment.
