Jersey City Strike 4 Climate Justice!

Start: Friday, December 06, 201912:00 PM

On September 20, we walked out of our schools, our jobs, and our homes to demand that our leaders take bold action on Climate Change.  Our voices are growing and our leaders are starting to listen. Just last month, Governor Murphy announced he would not support the construction of the North Bergen power plant in the meadowlands. This decision came after months and months of activism from adult and youth environmentalists. If we work together, our movement is unstoppable.

But there are still many elected leaders who are resistant to change. NJ transit has just proposed the building of a fracked gas power plant to be built along the Hackensack River in Kearny. This power plant will be paid for using 410 million dollars from a Hurricane Sandy disaster relief fund and will become the 13th largest emitter of greenhouse gases in New Jersey dumping 571,000 tons of Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere annually. New Jersey already has poor air quality, especially in Kearny, Newark and the NY metro area, and it will only worsen with the operation of this power plant.

We’re fighting back. We believe in a future with clean air, clean water, and clean renewable energy, and justice for all. On December 6th we are again walking out of our schools, jobs, and homes, to demand that Governor Murphy rejects NJ transit’s proposal and works on plans to power our mass transit with clean renewable energy.

Join us as we rally outside the Journal Square PATH Station (right by the fountain in the square) before taking the PATH train to Newark to join hundreds of students and community members across NJ for a rally outside NJ Transit's headquarters to demand an end to their proposed fracked gas power plant and call on Governor Murphy to enact a climate emergency moratorium on all fossil fuel projects!

Rally at the fountain outside Journal Square PATH station at 12pm

Take the PATH Train to Newark Penn Station (depart for Newark at 12:45pm)

Join hundreds more climate strikers in the park behind Newark Penn Station as we rally for climate justice!   Newark Penn Station rally begins at 1:30pm and ends at 2:30pm.  We'll then take the PATH train together back to Journal Square.
