The Phoenix Congress has created a Blueprint for a Better America, which aims to reshape America’s social contract in a way which respects the needs of all Americans. It will work through party lines to change the policies which are negatively affecting American lives. The Blueprint honors the memory of the admirable Martin Luther King, Jr. by addressing his triple evils: poverty, racism, and militarism. It is fighting to stop the endless wars and bring our troops home, push for criminal justice reforms which end mass incarceration, and provide a universal basic income to all citizens, drastically reducing the levels of poverty.

On August 15th, 2020, we will stand together (metaphorically speaking), as an American Union and, in the Gandhian tradition, we will observe a 24-hour fast for peace. Fasting has proven throughout history to be a powerful and effective form of protest. It creates and places a moral pressure on our candidates for office to do more for the marginalized millions. For 24 hours, we will abstain from food, consuming only water. Gandhi recommended a dinner-to-dinner fast.

In doing this, we will show the candidates for federal office how serious we are about cutting through partisan gridlock to implement solutions. By uniting to take real world, nonviolent action, we will prove our sincerity to members of our government that we will hold them accountable for their actions.
