KATOOMBA: NON-VIOLENT DIRECT ACTION (NVDA) TRAINING

Start: Sunday, August 25, 201911:00 AM

End: Sunday, August 25, 2019 4:00 PM

Extinction Rebellion Blue Mountains Non-Violent Direct Action (NVDA) training workshop.

Extinction Rebellion Blue Mountains is holding an introduction to non-violent direct action - both theory and practice. This is your chance to join this growing, diverse and peaceful movement of people united to demand action on climate change.

We will provide a briefing about Extinction Rebellion and our campaign to address the climate emergency, which began last year with thousands of people joining together to take part in mass civil disobedience in the UK. This campaign is based on PhD research on effective campaign mobilisation, and experience which so far has led Kings College University London, Cardiff University and Bristol University to agree to divest from fossil fuels.

This training will cover how to de-escalate tense situations, how to interact with police, what to do if you get arrested and much more. We will go through action essentials and practice of nonviolent techniques, and create affinity groups for people in the Blue Mountains area. Affinity groups are made up of 8-12 people who work together and support each other on the day of the action and preparing for it. Group members choose whether they take on non-arrestable or arrestable roles and both are equally important.

Please register to guarantee your place. No need to bring the ticket though - we'll have a list.

Please arrive at 10.45am to sign in for a prompt 11am start.
