Kickoff 2019 with Slay the Gerrymander: Games for Democracy - Mapathon with Draw the Lines

Start: Sunday, March 03, 2019 2:00 PM

End: Sunday, March 03, 2019 4:30 PM

Fair Districts PA Chester County Kickoff for the 2019-2020 Pennsylvania Legislative Session

Looking for something both entertaining and meaningful to do on a winter Sunday afternoon?  Please join Fair Districts PA advocates from across Chester County at a Draw the Lines/Games for Democracy event on Sunday, March 3rd from 2:00 to 4:30 pm in the Chester County Library's Struble Room (450 Exton Square Pkwy, Exton PA 19341).

The program will feature our friends from Draw the Lines who help voters go beyond talking about district maps to drawing them. Their first statewide mapping competition (total prize pool: $37,000) just wrapped up. It offered proof that ordinary folks are ready, willing, and able to do this core task of democracy.

But, as you know, the people who run Harrisburg need a lot of convincing. That’s why Draw the Lines is beginning a new competition in February, hoping to attract even more mappers than the 1,500 who gave it a try the first time around.

At the event, you'll enjoy warmup activities for mappers such as Flashes of Insight, Political Pictionary, and Hometown Portrait. Then you’ll be walked through District Builder, the digital mapping tool, and you’ll get off to a good start on your own map. Bring your laptops if you like, or just follow along on the big screen. Either way, you'll be off and mapping.

There is no fee to attend and light refreshments will be served. Parking is available in the library's parking lot as well as the Exton Square Mall's "Carriage Garage" across from the library .

Event capacity is limited to 70 people, so please request your free tickets by February 27. Feel free to bring along family and friends, but please request tickets for them too so we can plan accordingly!

Fixing democracy should be fun – and on March 3rd it will be!
