Labor Working Group Interest Meeting
Start: Tuesday, December 17, 2024• 6:00 PM
Location:Teamsters Local 340 Hall•27 Main St, South Portland, ME 04106 US
Maine's labor movement is more closely united than in many other states, but many of our union siblings are noticing a decrease in energy and growth, and continue to be forced onto the defense. Wages are stagnant, costs of living are on the rise, public sector jobs
are under attack, and the human rights of our coworkers and neighbors
are threatened by the increasingly far-right, anti-labor government.
If you want to fight back within your workplace or sector, you should join your fellow Maine labor organizers on December 17th at 6pm at the DSA Office in Portland (details will be provided after you RSVP) or over Zoom.
We will be discussing the current state of our unions in activity, mood, and democratic structure. We hope you will leave this meeting with some ideas for an actionable plan for you and your coworkers to build within your unions and workplaces towards an actionable general strike threat, following the UAW's call to align our contracts to all expire on May 1st, 2028. Our labor movement will not grow just one contract at a time, but must be grown by those of us who will unite across sectors and take on this fight from its roots.
