Lakeside Lake borders the Pineview neighborhood of Dayton and is directly across the street from the Dayton VA Campus. The spring-fed lake was once part of Lakeside Amusement Park. Built in l890, it was an attraction for the many visitors to the Dayton Soldiers Home (now the VA) created by Abraham Lincoln just weeks before his assassination. Many Dayton residents have fond memories of their visits to the lake which offered fishing paddle boats, and a beautiful vista. The Union Sportsmen's Alliance, Ohio AFL-CIO, the Dayton Miami Valley Regional Labor Council, CityWide and the City of Dayton are working with community residents to clean up and restore this natural amenity.

Phase One of our project is to clear out invasive honeysuckle and trash along the water’s edge. Phase Two will be to build a fishing pier, small parking lot and improved pathways and signage. The cleanup and beautification of this natural amenity will greatly boost the confidence of the community and the city’s ability to attract additional investment to West Dayton.
